Urgent & Immediate Care Services
Bronchitis
Bronchitis occurs when the airways in your lungs become irritated or inflamed, often causing you to cough up thick, discolored mucus. There are two main types of bronchitis: acute and chronic.
Acute bronchitis usually develops from a respiratory infection or cold, tends to improve within 7–10 days, and typically leaves no lasting effects, though a lingering cough may persist.
Chronic bronchitis, often linked to smoking, involves ongoing inflammation and irritation of the bronchial tube lining. Frequent episodes of bronchitis could indicate chronic bronchitis, which requires medical evaluation and treatment.
Acute Care Injuries
At FAAAMED Urgent and Primary Care, we are dedicated to helping you maintain a healthier lifestyle by offering timely and compassionate care for acute illnesses, injuries, or urgent medical conditions.
While we provide urgent care for issues that are not life-threatening or disabling, our clinic also treats a wide variety of non-emergency concerns. We offer personalized and efficient care, ensuring that you receive the attention you need without the high costs typically associated with emergency department visits.
Whether it's a minor illness, injury, or routine health concern, our team is here to provide you with the care you deserve at a significantly lower cost. Your health and well-being are our top priorities.

Abscess: Incision and Drainage
When sweat glands or oil glands become obstructed, bacteria can become trapped underneath the skin, leading to the formation of an abscess. This infection often results in a painful, swollen lump filled with pus. In some cases, abscesses may require medical intervention, such as an incision and drainage (I&D) procedure, followed by a course of antibiotics to ensure complete resolution.
If left untreated, abscesses can lead to severe complications, including the need for debridement, permanent scarring, or even sepsis, a life-threatening condition. Incision and drainage helps relieve the pressure caused by the trapped pus and allows for the healing process to begin.
If you're dealing with an abscess that requires incision and drainage, FAAAMED Urgent & Primary Care is here to provide prompt and effective treatment. We understand the importance of addressing abscesses early to avoid complications and support your recovery. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need care.
Allergy and Asthma Services
Allergic reactions can arise from various triggers, including insect bites, medications, foods, and environmental factors. These reactions range from mild symptoms, such as rashes, to severe, life-threatening situations like anaphylaxis. To manage allergies effectively and prevent emergencies, it is crucial to identify your triggers and, in some cases, know the type of asthma you have.
Food allergies can be confirmed through skin testing, and the primary treatment is avoiding the allergenic food. However, for individuals with severe food allergies, having injectable epinephrine (EpiPen) available is essential to prevent or treat anaphylactic reactions in case of accidental exposure. Insect bites and stings can also trigger allergic reactions, and it's important to be aware of potential allergens in your environment.
Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the lungs that makes breathing difficult. It is often accompanied by symptoms such as wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness. Allergies and asthma are commonly linked, and two primary types of asthma are:
- Allergic (Extrinsic) Asthma: Triggered by allergens like pollen, pet dander, mold, or dust mites. Symptoms are often seasonal.
- Non-Allergic (Intrinsic) Asthma: Triggered by irritants such as smoke, perfumes, cleaning products, or cold air.
Other asthma types include:
- Cough-Variant Asthma (CVA): Persistent dry cough.
- Exercise-Induced Asthma (EIA): Triggered by physical activity.
- Nocturnal Asthma: Symptoms worsen at night.
- Occupational Asthma: Triggered by workplace irritants.
For both allergies and asthma, knowing your triggers and treatment options is essential in managing symptoms and preventing acute flare-ups. If you experience severe reactions, seeking immediate medical attention is necessary.
Dehydration
Dehydration occurs when the body loses more fluids than it takes in, leading to an imbalance. This condition can arise from various factors, such as exercise, high environmental temperatures, or illness. However, it is most commonly seen in individuals with stomach flu, which causes diarrhea and vomiting. Dehydration can also affect infants, elderly adults, and people with chronic illnesses.
In general, a loss of three to four percent of total body water does not lead to immediate health problems, but symptoms such as dizziness and fatigue may develop if the loss reaches five to eight percent. If the body loses more than ten percent of its water, individuals may experience extreme thirst, confusion, and significant physical and mental deterioration. Severe dehydration, with a loss of 15–25% of body water, can be life-threatening.
It’s important to stay hydrated, especially during illness, physical activity, and in hot weather. If you experience signs of dehydration, it’s essential to seek medical attention promptly.
Dermatological Issues
At FAAAMED Urgent & Primary Care, we provide a variety of dermatological treatment options to address different skin conditions. One common condition we treat is dermatitis, a broad term for any abnormal skin outbreak or inflammation.
Dermatitis can result from a number of factors, including contact allergens, bacterial infections, allergic reactions, hives, insect bites, and more. In some cases, skin conditions may be linked to underlying medical issues such as autoimmune diseases or leaky gut syndrome.
Our team is here to help diagnose and treat your skin concerns with personalized care. If you are experiencing skin irritation or inflammation, contact us to discuss your symptoms and receive the appropriate treatment.
Ear Infection
An ear infection occurs when a virus or bacterium infects the middle ear. While ear infections are more common in children than adults, they often develop as a result of other illnesses like allergies, the flu, or a cold.
These conditions can cause swelling and congestion in the throat, nasal passages, and eustachian tubes, which are responsible for draining fluid, regulating air pressure, and ventilating the middle ear.
When the eustachian tubes become blocked due to congestion, fluid can accumulate in the middle ear. This trapped fluid can then become infected, leading to an ear infection.
If you or your child are experiencing symptoms such as ear pain, difficulty hearing, or drainage from the ear, it is important to seek medical attention for proper treatment.
Food Poisoning
Food poisoning is caused by eating food that is contaminated, most commonly by infectious organisms, such as parasites, viruses, and bacteria. Contamination can happen at home if food is incorrectly cooked or handled or during the food production process.
Raw foods, such as produce or salads, are especially susceptible to cross-contamination. Food poisoning symptoms typically begin within hours of eating and typically present as diarrhea, vomiting, and/or nausea.
Although food poisoning symptoms are often mild and typically resolve naturally, more severe cases may require medical treatment.
Foreign Body Removal
When a foreign object becomes lodged in the body, it is necessary to remove it to prevent further complications. While foreign body removal is most common in children, it can occur in adults as well. In many cases, adults may not be aware of how the object became lodged, while children often place objects in their bodies intentionally.
For objects lodged in the ear canal, common signs include ear pain, drainage or bleeding, and a reduced ability to hear. Similarly, objects in the nose may cause pain, bleeding, or nasal discharge.
If you or your child are experiencing any of these symptoms, it's important to seek medical attention for proper removal of the foreign object.
Laceration, Suturing, and Wound Care
A laceration is a deep tear or cut in the skin or flesh, typically with jagged or torn edges. Unlike minor cuts or scrapes that often heal on their own, lacerations usually require suturing and proper wound care to ensure effective healing.
To aid in treatment and provide a better understanding of your injury, please be prepared to answer the following questions:
- How did the laceration occur?
- When did the injury happen?
- Was the wound caused by an animal?
- Are you experiencing any additional symptoms, such as numbness or weakness in your hands, fingers, or other parts of your body?
Your responses will help us determine the best course of action for your care.
Pink Eye Conjunctivitis
Pink eye (conjunctivitis) occurs when the transparent membrane that covers the white part of your eye and lines the inside of your eyelids becomes infected or inflamed, causing the whites of your eyes to appear pink or red.
Conjunctivitis can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or allergens and may affect one or both eyes. Bacterial conjunctivitis is often linked to improperly cleaned contact lenses or sharing lenses with others. Both bacterial and viral forms of conjunctivitis frequently occur alongside a sore throat or cold.
Factors that increase the risk of developing pink eye include:
- Exposure to someone infected with bacterial or viral conjunctivitis
- Allergic conjunctivitis (exposure to allergens)
- Use of contact lenses, particularly extended-wear lenses
Common signs of pink eye include:
- Redness in the eye
- Itching or irritation
- Crusting around the lashes or eyelids
- A scratchy or gritty feeling in the eye
- Swollen eyelids
- Vision problems
- Severe eye pain
- Persistent or worsening symptoms
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact our office today for an evaluation and treatment.
Poison Ivy
Poison ivy rashes are caused by urushiol, an oil found in the stems, roots, and leaves of the poison ivy plant. Direct contact with the plant or indirect exposure via tools, clothing, or pets can trigger a reaction.
The rash may appear as a straight line if the plant brushed against your skin or spread out if the urushiol was transferred through clothing or pet fur. Reactions usually begin within 12–48 hours after exposure and can last up to two to three weeks.
If you experience any of the following symptoms, seek medical care promptly:
- Severe or widespread rash
- Blisters that are oozing pus
- Rash on sensitive areas like eyes, mouth, face, or genitals
- Rash that doesn’t improve after a few weeks
- Fever over 100°F
- Difficulty breathing or swelling
Nausea, Vomiting, and Diarrhea
Nausea is the sensation that often precedes vomiting but does not involve the actual act of throwing up. It can be triggered by a variety of factors, including infections, injuries, illnesses, or other medical conditions. Persistent or frequent nausea without an obvious cause may indicate an underlying health issue.
Vomiting occurs when the contents of the stomach are forcefully expelled through the digestive tract and out of the mouth. Like nausea, vomiting can result from several causes, such as food poisoning, influenza, morning sickness, and other health conditions.
Diarrhea is characterized by three or more episodes of watery, loose bowel movements in a single day. It can be caused by food poisoning, influenza, morning sickness, or other health conditions. Whether diarrhea points to a serious health concern depends on the underlying cause and its duration.
Acute diarrhea lasts for one or two days, while chronic diarrhea persists for more than four weeks. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, we are here to help identify the cause and provide the necessary care.
Orthopedic Fracture and Dislocation
A fracture (broken bone) can occur for various reasons, including osteoporosis, repetitive stress injuries, tumors, or most commonly, an accident.
The most common types of bone fractures include:
- Closed (simple): A break in the bone without damage to the surrounding skin.
- Open (compound): A break where the bone pierces the skin or the skin is damaged at the time of the fracture.
- Comminuted: A fracture where the bone is shattered into multiple pieces.
- Segmental (multiple): A bone broken in two or more places.
Common Signs of a Fracture:
- Deformity, limping, or tenderness
- Severe pain
- Abrasions, tears, or cuts on the skin
- Broken or torn skin
Dislocation occurs when a joint is displaced from its normal position. This condition is most often caused by trauma, such as a fall or blow. Dislocations can also result in damage to surrounding nerves, blood vessels, muscles, and the joint capsule.
Common Signs of Joint Dislocation:
- Swelling or discoloration
- The joint appears visibly out of place
- Inability to move the joint
- Pain, loss of mobility, instability, or bruising
Respiratory Illnesses & Infection
Respiratory tract infections encompass any infection affecting the lungs, airways, throat, or sinuses. The most common type is the common cold. These infections are classified as either upper or lower respiratory infections based on the area they impact.
Upper respiratory infections include conditions like the common cold, sinus infections, laryngitis, tonsillitis, and mild flu. These infections impact the throat, sinuses, and nose. The most common symptom is coughing, though additional symptoms may include muscle aches, sneezing, sore throat, headaches, and a runny or stuffy nose.
Lower respiratory infections occur in the breathing airways or lungs and are typically caused by viral or bacterial infections such as bronchitis, bronchiolitis, severe flu, tuberculosis, or pneumonia. Symptoms often include coughing (sometimes producing mucus or phlegm), wheezing during exhalation, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.
Sinus Infections
Sinus infections, or sinusitis, occur when the sinuses become swollen or inflamed. This inflammation can result from various factors, including allergies, colds, nasal polyps, or anatomical abnormalities. When the sinuses become blocked, bacteria can grow, leading to an infection.
Sinus infections are categorized based on their duration: acute sinus infections are short-term, while infections lasting longer than eight weeks or recurring frequently are classified as chronic sinus infections.
Individuals with weakened immune systems, asthma, allergies, or structural blockages in the sinuses or nasal passages are at a higher risk of developing sinus infections.
Sore Throat
A sore throat (pharyngitis) can manifest in various ways, including hoarseness, swollen tonsils, pain or difficulty swallowing, and a scratchy sensation. It may also accompany other symptoms such as a runny nose, nausea, vomiting, chills, fever, headaches, and body aches. The pain and discomfort result from swelling in the pharynx, the area at the back of the throat.
There are many potential causes of a sore throat, including exposure to environmental irritants like allergens, dust, pet dander, or pollen. Sore throats can also stem from viral or bacterial infections.
STD Testing and Pelvic Exam
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections transmitted through sexual contact or other forms of close intimacy. There are more than 20 different types of STDs and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, or yeast. Without treatment, STDs can result in serious health problems, emphasizing the importance of regular testing—even if no symptoms are present in you or your partner.
For women, STD testing is often part of a routine pelvic exam. During the exam, the doctor examines the vulva and vaginal opening for signs of irritation, genital warts, abnormal discharge, cysts, or other irregularities. A speculum is gently inserted into the vagina and opened to allow a swab to collect cells from the surface. These samples are then sent to a lab to detect any infections.
Stitches
Most scrapes and minor cuts heal on their own, but more serious wounds or surgical incisions often require stitches to hold the tissues together, promoting proper healing. By aligning the edges of the wound, stitches allow the skin and underlying tissues to fuse during the healing process.
While it’s natural to feel some anxiety about getting stitches, especially after a traumatic injury, the procedure is typically painless and leaves minimal scarring.
In most cases, a follow-up appointment is necessary to remove the stitches, unless they are the dissolvable type that do not require removal. The timing for stitch removal depends on the severity and location of the wound, with different areas of the body requiring varying lengths of healing time.
Strep Test and Strep Throat
Strep throat, or streptococcal pharyngitis, is an infection that causes swelling and inflammation of the tonsils and throat. While many assume that a sore throat and strep throat are the same, a sore throat is simply a symptom caused by bacteria or viruses, whereas strep throat is a specific bacterial infection.
Streptococcal bacteria are highly contagious and spread easily, often through sneezing or coughing by an infected person. These bacteria can also survive on common surfaces such as desks and doorknobs, making it crucial to avoid close contact with infected individuals and to sanitize frequently touched areas.
The most common signs of strep throat include:
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Red, swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches
- A sudden, severe sore throat that causes pain when swallowing
- Fever
While many symptoms of strep throat overlap with those of a typical sore throat, individuals with strep throat generally do not experience coughing or a runny nose.
Urinary Tract Infections
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract, reaching the bladder and potentially spreading to the kidneys. While UTIs are more common in women, they can affect individuals of any age or gender.
These infections are typically straightforward to treat with antibiotics, but if left untreated, they can lead to serious complications. Seeking medical attention is essential for a proper diagnosis and effective treatment.
UTIs are often caused by not fully emptying the bladder after sexual activity or wiping from back to front. People who have experienced a UTI are generally at a higher risk of developing subsequent infections.
