ADD/ADHD

Cannabis has emerged as a potential alternative for managing Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), offering therapeutic benefits for some individuals. Research suggests that cannabis compounds, particularly cannabidiol (CBD), may help regulate dopamine levels, a neurotransmitter critical to attention and focus. A 2021 study by Cooper et al. found that CBD improved focus and reduced hyperactivity in adults with ADHD (Cooper, 2021). Moreover, cannabis has been noted for its anxiolytic effects, which can alleviate the anxiety often co-occurring with ADD/ADHD symptoms (ElSohly et al., 2020). Another investigation conducted by Mitchell et al. (2020) highlighted the potential of low-dose tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in enhancing cognitive performance and impulse control. Similarly, a 2019 meta-analysis by Hindocha et al. emphasized the neuroprotective and mood-stabilizing effects of cannabinoids in ADHD management. Furthermore, a patient-reported outcomes study by Bidwell et al. (2022) revealed that cannabis users experienced a notable reduction in restlessness and irritability. While more extensive clinical trials are needed, these findings underscore cannabis as a promising adjunct therapy for managing ADD/ADHD symptoms effectively and safely.
