Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Cannabis has shown potential as a treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), offering relief from various symptoms. Research indicates that cannabis, particularly its active compounds like tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), may reduce the severity of PTSD symptoms such as intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and hyperarousal. Studies have reported improvements in sleep quality and overall psychosocial functioning among PTSD patients who use cannabis therapeutically. For instance, a randomized controlled trial found that the synthetic cannabinoid nabilone significantly reduced PTSD-related nightmares and improved sleep continuity (Jetly et al., 2015).

Observational studies have further highlighted cannabis's effectiveness in enhancing social and family interactions, contributing to an improved quality of life for individuals with PTSD (Wilkinson et al., 2015). Additionally, cannabis has been associated with reductions in anxiety and depression, common comorbidities in PTSD, which can help patients better engage in therapeutic interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (Walsh et al., 2017).

However, the variability in individual responses and potential side effects, such as psychoactive agitation or dependency risks, underscore the need for tailored treatment and careful monitoring (Cameron et al., 2014).Despite these promising outcomes, more extensive clinical trials are necessary to establish the safety, efficacy, and optimal dosing of cannabis for PTSD treatment (AIMS Neuroscience, 2021; PTSD VA Study, 2023).    add the
